Program Information
Classroom Lessons
Classroom counseling lessons focus on personal safety, skills for learning, managing emotions and solving problems. Confidentiality is maintained in all conversations with children, teachers and/or parents unless there is the suspicion of abuse, which is rare. The counselor is a mandated reporter and must report any suspected neglect, physical and/or emotional abuse. Attendance issues are addressed through the counselor's office and/or the social worker's office.
Small Group
Small groups are available throughout the year and are based on the individual needs of the student. Small groups help students support each other and recognize they are not alone in their feelings. Participation in small groups may be requested by teachers or parents. If small group counseling is desired or requested, parental permission is always required. If you have questions or would like to request that your child be placed in a group, please contact me. Counseling groups offered during the school year may include:
- Loss / Divorce
- Dealing with Worry
- Dealing with Anger
- Social Skills
- Making Friends / Resolving Conflict

If it is determined that a student is in need of a structured series of individual counseling sessions then parents are informed of the sessions, parental permission is requested and parental reinforcement of concepts introduced in counseling sessions are encouraged. Long-term personal and/or family counseling is referred to other agencies.
